‘’I am writing this letter to express the gratitude I have for meeting Karen from Step Together Volunteering.  When I first met Karen I was shy, nervous, not much confidence or self-belief and in truth a little scared.  I had not much knowledge on how to get a job or find a job to apply for; I wasn’t sure where to start.  I did not know how to send an email and was not sure about computers.  Karen helped me to start from scratch, helping me to build my confidence and self-esteem as well as my skills, she also helped me to find my volunteer roles.  Then eventually I came into paid work, first as a Project Assistant and then was promoted to the role of Support Worker.  When my contracted role as a Support Worker came to an end I felt down so I rang Karen once again.  Karen supported me and sent some email links for volunteering and paid positions and I have now just been employed again into a new job as a Mental Health Support Worker.

I have very little family support as I was abused by a family member when I was a little girl; Karen had faith and belief in me when others had not, without Karen’s care and support through the laughing , crying, ups and downs I feel I would not have gotten to where I am today; it has been an absolute honor and privilege to meet Karen.

I think people like Karen and this project are far too valuable to loose and that it would be a great loss to the community to loose Step Together Volunteering, I would like to thank all those who support this project.’’ – Sarah

Anna-Clare Temple, CEO Step Together Volunteering said ‘I am so grateful for Sarah allowing us to share her own words, to receive such letters reminds me of the importance of our Volunteer Project Managers’ work.

Even after her initial support from Step Together Volunteering had ended, because of the strong relational approach we take, Sarah knew who she could turn to when she felt down.  Karen was able to offer that little bit of vital interim support to help Sarah with her next step forward and find her next role. The trust developed from their previous work together meant that Sarah could reach for the help she needed.

As CEO of Step Together Volunteering I feel so proud of the service our team offer to help Sarah, and many others like her, make their next step towards a positive future. I’d like to thank everyone who works so hard, including our volunteer Trustees, to deliver results for our clients.’’
