Tony, a Royal Marines Veteran, had a fantastic time volunteering at V Festival as a ‘Charity Concierge’ through our partnership with Child.org.
Having experienced mental health issues, Tony is currently living in supported Veterans Housing. An ex-Royal Marines musician, he was keen to volunteer doing something that matched his needs and interests.
Elaine from Step Together knows the positive impact volunteering can have for someone like Tony. She has been supporting Tony to help him rebuild his confidence and increase his social networks through volunteering.
Step Together was able to cover Tony’s travel expenses to the festival so he was able to attend. He volunteered for the whole weekend, putting up tents and delivering drinks in return for a donation to Child.org. He also got plenty of time off to enjoy the bands!
“It was fantastic. I had a great team to work with, the festival was just absolutely awesome and the work was great fun too. There's no way I would have had the confidence to do something like this when I first met Elaine. I have now registered with Child.org as a concierge for future festivals. What an experience! I can't wait to do it again.”
Kate, one of the Child.org event assistants said: “Thanks Tony, you were a total legend! You raised so much money and were a pleasure to work with”.
